OAD Conference Awards Guideline

Harvey Katz Advocate Award
Harvey Katz was a caring leader and a staunch supporter of deaf rights in the Ohio Deaf Community for many years. Some of Harvey Katz's achievements include the following: setting up workshops for educational, social, individual and interpreter awareness. Recipient of the award is honored for his/her outstanding achievement as an advocate to the Deaf Community.

Boyd D. Hume Memorial Award
Recipients of the highest OAD award (in the form of a plaque) are honored for their outstanding service to OAD. The award will be given at each OAD biennial conference to a member for his/her long distinguished service: such as officers or chairperson of the Standing Committee of the State Association, and for serving twenty (20) years or more in the state association. OAD Board members have the privilege of selecting long-serving OAD members who are worthy of Boyd D. Hume Award.

Minnie Hawk Spirit of OAD Award
The Minnie Hawk Spirit of OAD Award is presented to individual(s) who carry the spirit of the OAD in the State of Ohio of his/her work for many years.

Alvin Hawk Award
The Alvin Hawk is a service award presented at the biennial OAD Conference. It is presented to an individual who has volunteered his/her time and talent to the Deaf Community in the State of Ohio.

OAD Distinguished Service Award
The OAD Distinguished Service Award is presented to an individual who has volunteered his/her and effort in the State of Ohio for ten years.

Recognition and Appreciation of Contribution Award
This award is presented to an individual, agency, or organization that had contributed monetarily to the Ohio Association of the Deaf, Inc.

Teacher Recognition Award
The Teacher Recognition Award is presented to an individual who is an outstanding teacher of deaf people or community.
